It is known as the first genocide of the 20th century, and hundred and two years ago on 191April 23, the Turks gathered all Armenian leaders, intellectuals, men in power, and priests so they won`t worn the Armenian of what was about to come.
Armenia was the first nation to accept Christianity in 301AD. It is found in South-East Europe and is the home of one of the oldest people in the world, Armenians.
The Ottoman Empire was formed by small tribes attacking Armenia and other surrounding countries. After that, for many years the Turks treated Armenians like lower class citizens and saw them as a threat to their empire and so eliminating the Armenians was their goal ever since because Armenians were Christians and remained loyal to their church no matter how violent the Turks were towards them.
And so came World War One, the Turks saw this as an opportunity to eliminate the Armenians from the face of the Earth while the world war in chaos. On April 23, 1915, they gathered all Armenian intellectuals, businessmen, and others who had power and killed them all. There is no specific date to when all these arrests and murders happened but the Armenian people today mark April 23 as the night where the Turks gathered the intellectuals and April 24, 1915, as the Armenian Genocide day.
When the war started the Turks gathered all men, made them work, dig their own graves, and kill them all. Then came women, elderly, and children the Turks took them out of their homes and made them walk to nowhere in the purpose of “Relocation” for war causes, but the Armenians knew back then that the only destination for them was death. And so during the march, the people were attacked by Kurds and Arabs where they were robbed, raped, murdered, and sold into slavery. With no food or water, Armenians faced horror, tragedy, and inhumanity till they reached the Syrian Deserts.
Armenians survived the genocide and to this day we remember, recognize, and demand the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
We want our lands back, we want justice, and we will not stop fighting for our cause till every single drop of blood is paid.
Every year on April 24 Armenians from all around the world march on the streets and protest against the Turkish government and the injustice. this year a movie was released called “The Promise” which is a visual representation of only a little of what the Turks did to us.
“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia. See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.”
